Due to the urban monsoon Atlanta, Georgia has been experiencing over a week or more, many have been impacted in a number of ways. The normal commute to work has been transitioned into a weather nightmare due to flooding of streets and/or the closing of poritons of the interstate due to flooding. Unfortunately, residents have also been experiencing the flooding within their homes which could lead to mold. Luckily, eHow.com provides some information and instructions on how to combat mold as result of moisture problems.


Mold is a type of fungus that is most often associated with damp, musty locations such as basements and bathrooms. Mold travels airborne as tiny spores which like to make their home in wet areas. Once established in this area the will multiply.If mold is spotted, it's best to address the problem immediately before it spread to other areas. It's also a good indication of a moisture problem, which should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Things You'll Need:
Gloves
Goggles
Face mask
Laundry detergent
Bleach
Vacuum cleaner

Step 1
Move your furniture to a mold free area.

Step 2
Throw away molded furniture and bag any molded material right away.
Step 3
Cover up all ducts, vents etc.

Step 4
Put on gloves, goggles, and a face mask so that the mold won't get on you. Otherwise, if you are allergic to mold you may get really sick.

Step 5
Use a brush to scrub a mixture of warm water and laundry detergent, then wash it off.If you want you can add ¼ cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water and apply to the area to disinfect it.
Step 6
To keep the mold from regrowing you should apply some kind of borate which can be found in laundry or dish washer detergent.

Step 7
After you've fully cleaned the area, vacuum the whole area with a HEPA-rated vacuum cleaner. Go over the area twice to insure you've gotten it all.

Step 8
If the mold is too widespread, contact a professional. Your health may be at stake if the mold is left untreated.
